dwg, dxf, and gis coordinates

Hello,

I am trying to bring a dwg into gis using arcview (which I am not really familiar with).  I am noticing that when I bring the dwg in (using "add theme") that it is assigned incorrect coordinates.  If I save the dwg to a dxf and bring it in then the coordinates are correct.  Why the difference?  How can I get the dwg to be in the correct coordinates?
